Hanging Banners

Printroom prints hanging banners in PVC, mesh and PVC-free materials, made to any size and finished with eyelets or pole pockets so they hang securely from railings, fences, scaffolding, walls or poles. We print for shops, building sites, venues and event teams in Dublin and across Ireland, and every banner is produced in-house in Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow.

If you know where the banner is going, you're most of the way to choosing it. The location decides the material, the viewing distance decides the size, and whatever you're tying it to decides the fixing.

Hanging banner types and what each one is for

A hanging banner is one of the banners below, printed to your size and finished for hanging.

Banner Best for Indoor or outdoor Material Fixing
PVC banners Shopfronts, promotions, events, general signage Both Laminated PVC (the same as a vinyl banner), smooth gloss finish Metal eyelets as standard, or pole pockets top and bottom
Mesh banners Scaffolding, fences, windy sites Outdoor Perforated PVC mesh Heat-welded hems and metal eyelets
PVC-free banners A lower-impact alternative to PVC Both Polyester scrim with a water-based biodegradable coating, matte finish Reinforced edges and eyelets
PVC-free mesh banners Scaffolding, fencing, building facades Outdoor Recyclable polyester, water-based inks Welded hems and metal eyelets
Traditional flags (banner-flag finish) Halls and event spaces where the design should read from both sides Indoor 95% translucent polyester, 6ft x 4ft Finished for hanging at venues and events
Heras fencing covers and crash barrier covers Site hoarding, event perimeters, barrier branding Outdoor PVC mesh, polyester mesh or PVC-free Metal or steel eyelets

For most jobs we'd start with PVC. It's waterproof, the colour is dense and the gloss finish looks sharp on a shopfront or at a launch. Move to mesh when the banner faces open ground or sits on scaffolding, because wind passes through the weave instead of pushing on a solid face. The colour is slightly less dense than solid PVC, a trade we'd take every time on an exposed site. PVC-free gives a softer matte look and suits brands that want to avoid PVC.

If a message has to read from both directions, the translucent flag is the better answer. And if there's nothing to hang from at all, Monsoon frames hold an eyeleted banner in a freestanding aluminium A-frame. Still undecided? Sizes and fixings

Our standard PVC and mesh sizes run from 60cm to 3m high and 1m to 5m wide, and we print any other size to order, landscape or portrait. Mesh can run much longer for scaffolding, such as a 2m x 15m scaffold banner. Just give us the width and height you need.

Eyelets come as standard, and they're what you want for railings and fences: tie each one off with cable ties, bungees or rope. On our PVC-free banners, the rough guide is an eyelet every 30 to 50cm around the edge, and we space them closer on large or exposed banners. Pole pockets suit banners hung from a pole top and bottom, which keeps the face flat and tidy indoors.

Irish weather is the real test outdoors. Our advice is mesh, closer eyelets and every eyelet tied off, never just the corners, because a banner flapping on two ties tears long before the print wears. Flame-retardant mesh is available on request for venues that require it. For ceiling hanging, check first that the venue allows rigging: we supply the printed, finished banner, and the venue or your installer handles the hanging.

Where to hang it

  • Railings and fences outside shops, schools and sports clubs
  • Scaffolding and building facades during works
  • Shopfronts and exterior walls, alongside your business signs
  • Inside halls, conference rooms and event spaces
  • Sports grounds and event venues, on barriers and perimeter fencing
  • Above exhibition stands, where the venue allows rigging, paired with trade show backdrops

Turnaround and delivery

Most orders are produced and delivered within a working week, and next-day delivery is available on many orders. We deliver nationwide by overnight courier, rolled in protective packaging. Keep the banner rolled, never folded, between uses and it will look the same at the next event.

Artwork and ordering

Send your artwork to size as a high-resolution, print-ready PDF in CMYK with fonts outlined, and we'll check it before printing. Keep text and logos clear of eyelets and hems. No print-ready file? Our in-house design team can build the banner from your logo, text and brand colours, or adapt artwork that isn't ready. There may be a small charge depending on the work, but we always quote before starting (see our FAQs). For layout ideas, read designing a business banner, event banner design and writing banner copy.

  1. Send us the size, material and fixing for a quote.
  2. Send your artwork, or brief our design team.
  3. Approve the proof, and we print and deliver.

FAQs

What kinds of banners does Printroom print?

Alongside hanging banners in PVC, mesh and PVC-free materials, we print pull up banners, a full range of outdoor banners and flags. Everything is large-format, backed by over 20 years' experience in large-format print and display.

What is a hanging banner and how is it fixed?

It's a printed banner finished with eyelets or pole pockets so it can hang from a railing, fence, scaffold, wall or pole. Eyelets take cable ties, bungees or rope; pole pockets slide over a pole.

Where can I get banner printing in Dublin?

We print everything in-house in Kilcoole, just south of Dublin. Next-day delivery is available on many orders, a premium same-day service is possible in the greater Dublin area depending on turnaround (ask us first), and you can arrange to collect from Kilcoole.

What size should a hanging banner be?

Size it for the distance it will be read from and the space you have. A banner seen from across a road or pitch needs fewer words in bigger letters, so it's often better to go larger with a shorter message than to squeeze more text in.

PVC or mesh for an outdoor banner?

Choose PVC if the spot is sheltered, such as a shopfront or a wall, because the colour is richer. Choose mesh if it faces open ground, a pitch or scaffolding, where wind would otherwise catch a solid banner like a sail.
