Professional Banner & Flag Design Service

Printroom's in-house design team designs banners and flags from your logo, text and brand colours, or reworks artwork that isn't print-ready. You get a quote before we start and a proof to approve before anything prints. What we do depends on what you already have:

What you have What we do What to send
Nothing but a logo Build the layout around it, with headline, colours and contact details set to the product's size Your logo, the wording, brand colours and the size you need
A rough idea or sketch Turn it into a proper layout and send you a proof A photo of the sketch, the wording and where it will hang or stand
Artwork made for screen or another size Adapt it to the new shape and set it up for print The original files, your logo and any brand guidelines
A finished print-ready PDF Check the file and tell you about anything that would print badly The PDF, supplied to size

What our design service includes

Our own team does the design work. There may be a small charge, depending on what the artwork needs. We always quote before we start, and the quote includes an allowance for some changes. We check every file and send you a proof to approve before anything is printed. You can read more about design and artwork in our FAQs.

We make everything in-house in Wicklow, so the people designing your banner work with the people printing it. That means the design fits the real product: we know where the eyelets sit and how much of a flag goes into the pole sleeve. We keep you updated at each step, from design through to delivery.

How the design process works

  1. Brief: tell us the product, the size, where it will hang or stand, how far away people will read it, the message and your deadline.
  2. Quote: we price the design and the print before any work starts.
  3. Design and proof: our team builds the layout and sends you a proof.
  4. Changes: you ask for changes within the allowance.
  5. Approval: you sign off the artwork and production starts.
  6. Print and delivery: we send it nationwide by overnight courier, or you can collect from Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow by arrangement.

Take your time over the proof. Names, dates, phone numbers and spelling are the mistakes that get through, and a typo on a 3m banner is hard to miss once it's up. We'd always ask someone who hasn't seen the artwork to read it too.

What to send us

The more you send at the start, the fewer changes you'll need:

  1. Your logo, ideally as a vector file
  2. Brand colour references in Pantone or CMYK
  3. The exact wording, including contact details
  4. Any photos you want used, at full size
  5. Measurements of the space and where it will be fixed

Images copied from a website rarely look sharp at banner size, so send the original files. For a shopfront or fence, measure the space or draw it to scale first. That shows you straight away whether the banner fits and how it will look in place. If the wording is still too long, our tips on writing banner copy will help you cut it down.

Supplying your own artwork

If you design it yourself, send a high-resolution, print-ready PDF at the finished size. It should be in CMYK (not RGB), with fonts outlined, bleed added, and text and logos kept inside a safe area. If bleed is new to you, read full bleed printing explained. It's also worth going through our banner design checklist and designing a business banner step by step before you export. Not sure your file is good enough? Send it anyway and we'll check it before printing.

Choosing the right banner or flag

For fences, walls and shopfronts, PVC banners are laminated, waterproof and made to any size, with eyelets as standard. On an exposed site we'd choose mesh banners, because the wind passes through them instead of pulling at the fixings. PVC-free banners suit brands that want to avoid PVC, and hanging banners work overhead in halls. Indoors, pull up banners are the easy choice. We can build an economy roller banner from just your logo, text and brand colours.

At entrances, our custom printed flags add height and movement. Feather flags and teardrop flags come in 2.3m, 3.3m or 4.5m heights. Rectangle banner flags are 2.5m tall and hold open without wind. Corporate flags and traditional flags fly from a flag pole. Oversized flags carry a 1100mm x 4000mm graphic on a 5m pole, and backpack flags put your brand on a street team. Banners and flags are all quicker to change than permanent signage, which makes them a good fit for seasonal promotions (see corporate identity flags and banners). If you're exhibiting, we can also design matching backdrops, tablecloths and counters so the whole stand looks like one brand.

Designing artwork for flags

A flag is never flat, so it needs its own layout rather than a stretched banner design. Keep the message to three to six words and put the logo in the upper third, where people can still see it as the fabric moves.

Single-sided flags are printed on 95% translucent polyester. The design shows through on the back as a mirror image, so text reads backwards from behind. If people will see the flag from both sides, we'd go double-sided. You can get double-sided printing on feather and teardrop flags. Rectangle banner flags come single or double sided, and corporate flags are single sided only. We match brand colours closely from Pantone or CMYK references. Fabric translucency and daylight both change how the colour looks, though, so we recommend a proof whenever the exact colour matters.

Keeping artwork clear at every size

Moving a design from a wide banner to a tall flag or a pull up means rearranging it, not just shrinking it. Stick to one message, strong contrast and large type, with clear space around the logo. Decide what people should see first from across a car park or exhibition hall, and cut back everything else.

Design time and delivery

How long the design takes depends on the job, and we agree it in your quote. Once you approve the proof, most orders are made and delivered within a working week. Next-day delivery is available on many orders. If you have a fixed event date, tell us when you ask for a quote and we'll plan backwards from it.

FAQs

How much does banner and flag design cost?

It depends on the artwork. Setting up a file from your logo and wording is a smaller job than adapting one design for several products. There may be a small charge, and you'll see it in the quote before we start.

How many design changes are included?

Your quote includes an allowance for some changes. We confirm what it covers before work begins. If you send the full wording and your brand colours with the brief, you'll usually need fewer changes.

Is printing included with the design?

Yes. We design and print together, so one quote covers the whole job, and the same team makes your banner or flag in Wicklow.

Can I collect my order instead?

Yes. You can collect from Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow by arrangement. Otherwise we send it by overnight courier anywhere in Ireland.
